Job Description
The Medical-Surgical RN provides direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans, and ensures high-quality nursing services for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. This role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and a commitment to patient-centered care. The RN will maintain current knowledge of evidence-based nursing practices and demonstrate critical thinking skills in implementing all phases of the nursing process while serving as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher, and resource for peers and other providers.
Responsibilities
- Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and following facility standards set by the State Board of Nursing and other regulations.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with hospital policies.
- Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapy as per physician orders.
- Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and patient progress, reporting changes promptly.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions, and health management.
- Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
- Assist with post-operative recovery, chronic illness management, and acute care interventions.
- Respond to emergencies and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with a wide range of age groups, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Idaho or approved compact state licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
- Advanced Life Support (ACLS) Certification required upon date of hire.
- Pediatric Life Support (PALS) certification required within one year of date of hire.
- Prior Medical-Surgical experience preferred.
