Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. They operate under minimal supervision while evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans. The therapist explains the purpose and procedures of various treatments to patients and educates them upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician prescribed treatments using various ventilatory, oxygen, and aerosol devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using multiple methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patient’s chest x-rays to determine further evaluation needs.
• Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist in respiratory care procedures.
• Provide adequate drainage of the chest when applicable.
• Perform tracheostomy care and arterial puncture as per established policies.
• Record relevant treatment information and communicate findings to physicians.
• Ensure maintenance of ventilatory equipment and assist with preventive measures.
• Keenly observe and report on the efficiency of therapy administered to patients.

Schedule

This is a Night shift position, working 3 12-hour shifts per week.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.
