Histology Technician

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Day shift, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM with occasional weekend requirements and on-call coverage every two months.

Job Description

The Histology Technician performs routine and complex histologic procedures including processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, and immunohistochemistry. Responsibilities also include performing quality control on completed slides, identifying problems that may affect diagnosis and results, and documenting maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab while complying with established laboratory policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex histologic procedures.
• Process, embed, and cut tissue samples effectively.
• Conduct routine and special staining techniques.
• Conduct immunohistochemistry and quality control on completed slides.
• Document maintenance of lab instruments and comply with lab policies.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 5 years of full-time experience in histology.
• Experience with Epic Beaker is required.
• BLS certification is mandatory.
• HT(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification is required.
• A bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology, or a related scientific discipline is preferred.
• 5 years of experience with IHC and Special Stains is preferred.
