Job Description

Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, the Radiation Therapist delivers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed and obtains localization images according to planned treatment delivery. The role involves assisting the physician or nurse in administering contrast agents and performing measurements for treatment calculations. Accurate documentation and data input into the verify-and-record system are essential for ensuring quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Perform treatment, simulation, fabrication of immobilization devices, and shielding, as well as radiosurgery and brachytherapy procedures as applicable.
• Collect and document data during the simulation procedure, ensuring accurate input of treatment-related data.
• Provide safety in patient care by consistently practicing departmental procedures for treatment administration.
• Recognize deviations from prescribed treatment delivery and report accordingly.
• Assure quality treatment delivery through accurate documentation of treatment records.
• Explain treatment procedures to patients and/or families, addressing concerns and referring medical questions to appropriate personnel.
• Monitor patients for expected and unexpected reactions to treatments and communicate them to the relevant staff members.
• Maintain a safe and orderly treatment room and demonstrate proficiency in necessary information systems and computer applications.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Completion of a formal radiation therapy technology program in a JRCERT-accredited institution.
• 2 years of experience in radiation therapy is required.
• ARRT Certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are mandatory.
• Compliance with PA Acts 31, 33, 34, and 73.
