Job Description

The Physical Therapist assesses and treats neuromusculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems by physical or mechanical means to maintain or restore function that has been impaired by injury or disease, for pain management and for the promotion of mobility and health as prescribed by the referring physician. The therapist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the plan of care for the person served while collaborating with the patient, their family, and the interdisciplinary team throughout the process.

Responsibilities

• Verifies physician orders prior to evaluation.
• Evaluates each patient, incorporating psychological and physical issues, and establishes goals and plans of care in collaboration with the patient and healthcare workers.
• Administers and directs all physical therapy treatments and modalities.
• Maintains contact with the referring physician regarding patient progress and observes treatment effects, recommending changes if indicated.
• Assembles and organizes home programs for patients, training families as needed.
• Directs and oversees PT Assistants and Rehabilitation Assistants during treatments.
• Maintains records of all patient treatments and co-signs progress notes as needed.
• Participates in quality assurance measures and performance improvement activities.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current New Mexico Physical Therapist licensure.
• BLS certification from AHA required.
• Education: Doctorate, Masters, Bachelors, or Associates Degree in Physical Therapy.
• Demonstrated skills in assessment/evaluation, decision-making, and time management.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, and organizational skills.
